The Acts of Kindness Humanitarian Award
The Acts of Kindness Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals who have performed a specified humanitarian action or operation to affect a cause that has a long term broad impact.
Eligibility:
Entry judging shall consider:
(1) The visibility of the act or deed is such that others will be inspired by it.
(2) Demonstrates dedication to improving quality of life of others and a passion for making the world a better place.
(3) Contributions in areas such as:
Eligibility:
- Nominee(s) resides or works in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia metropolitan areas.
- The nominee(s) will have performed a specified act or deed during the Acts of Kindness Awards recognition period and within the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia metropolitan areas.
- Nominees can be an individual, a couple, or a group of individuals.
- Nominees may be a volunteer or an employed person, and if employed, the act or deed shall exceed that called for by their employed position.
Entry judging shall consider:
(1) The visibility of the act or deed is such that others will be inspired by it.
(2) Demonstrates dedication to improving quality of life of others and a passion for making the world a better place.
(3) Contributions in areas such as:
- Social Justice
- Environmental Justice
- Economic or Social Equality
- Community Building
- Teaching/Education
- Child Advocacy
The Acts of Kindness Good Samaritan-S/Hero Award
The Acts of Kindness Good Samaritan-S/Hero Award recognizes individuals who unselfishly helped or protected an individual(s) in need, typically a stranger, whose life or human dignity were in danger.
Eligibility:
Entry judging shall consider:
(1) The visibility of the act or deed is such that others will be inspired by it.
(2) Shows tremendous courage, compassion and kindness in their action and deed.
(3) The selflessness of the action or deed, e.g., voluntarily went out of their way.
Eligibility:
- Nominee(s) resides or works in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia metropolitan areas.
- The nominee(s) will have performed a specified act or deed during the Acts of Kindness
- Awards recognition period and within the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia metropolitan areas.
- Nominees can be an individual, a couple, or a group of individuals.
- The act or deed must be performed outside the context of the nominee’s paid employment.

(1) The visibility of the act or deed is such that others will be inspired by it.
(2) Shows tremendous courage, compassion and kindness in their action and deed.
(3) The selflessness of the action or deed, e.g., voluntarily went out of their way.
The Acts of Kindness Outstanding Human Services Award
The Acts of Kindness Human Services Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exemplary work in a field of human services (e.g., service workers, municipal workers, nurses/health care providers) that is above and beyond their daily responsibilities.
Eligibility:
Entry judging shall consider:
(1) The visibility of the act or deed is such that others will be inspired by it.
(2) Shows tremendous courage, compassion and kindness in their action and deed.
(3) The extent to which their service or action might be considered above and beyond the call of duty.
Eligibility:
- Nominee(s) resides or works in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia metropolitan areas
- The nominee(s) will have performed a specified act or deed during the Acts of Kindness
- Awards recognition period and within the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia metropolitan areas.
- Nominees can be an individual, a couple, or a group of individuals.
- Volunteer, part-time or full-time work will be considered.
Entry judging shall consider:
(1) The visibility of the act or deed is such that others will be inspired by it.
(2) Shows tremendous courage, compassion and kindness in their action and deed.
(3) The extent to which their service or action might be considered above and beyond the call of duty.
The Acts of Kindness Outstanding Community Service Award
The Acts of Kindness Outstanding Community Service Award recognizes individuals who are making significant contributions to their community through their time, actions, talents and dedication (outside any volunteer work done for their employer). The community service cannot be the consequence of a criminal act or misconduct.
Eligibility:
Entry judging shall consider:
(1) The visibility of the act or deed is such that others will be inspired by it.
(2) Demonstrates qualities of passion and service to either one organization or a variety of volunteer activities.
(3) The degree to which their services/ actions have made a lasting or meaningful contribution or impact on their community
Eligibility:
- Nominee(s) resides or works in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia metropolitan areas.
- The nominee(s) will have performed a specified act or deed during the Acts of Kindness Awards recognition period and within the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia metropolitan areas.
- Nominees can be an individual, a couple, or a group of individuals.
- The charitable activities / events or service cannot be part of the nominee’s job description or duties and the individual cannot receive any monetary or personal benefits from their involvement.
Entry judging shall consider:
(1) The visibility of the act or deed is such that others will be inspired by it.
(2) Demonstrates qualities of passion and service to either one organization or a variety of volunteer activities.
(3) The degree to which their services/ actions have made a lasting or meaningful contribution or impact on their community
